Meet Lucy: The Path to Healing Trauma and Chronic Illness

Hello, and welcome to Embody Counselling! My name is Lucy Hampson, and I’m a licensed, and accomplished integrative psychotherapist. You may be wondering what "integrative" means—it’s simple. I use a range of therapeutic tools, tailoring each session to the individual. No two people are the same, and that’s why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy.

One of the main modalities I use is somatic psychotherapy, which focuses on the body and its connection to the mind. In my practice, we go beyond just talking about your experiences; we tap into the body’s innate wisdom. Why? Because true, lasting change comes when we involve both the mind and body. This is where traditional talk therapy often falls short—real healing requires a deep, embodied experience.

What Can I Help You With?

I specialise in trauma, anxiety, and depression, but my unique niche is working with people suffering from chronic illness and body symptoms. Many clients I see have tried talk therapy for years but still feel stuck. If you’ve experienced chronic illness, autoimmune conditions, or ongoing body symptoms, you likely already know the frustration of feeling like your body is working against you. This is where embodied therapy can make all the difference.

Why the Name "Embody Counselling"?

The name of my practice reflects a deep belief I hold—embodiment is the key to healing. When we’re disconnected from our bodies, we’re missing a major part of the picture. Trauma, especially, gets stored in the body, in the nervous system. That’s why body-centered, or "bottom-up" approaches to therapy, are so effective. To heal from trauma, we must work with the body—it’s where the injury happens, and it’s where the healing must occur.

At Embody Counselling, we focus on connecting with the body’s natural wisdom and capacity for healing. Embodiment means being fully present with your body in real-time, listening to the subtle cues and sensations that can guide your healing. Many people experience shifts quickly with this approach—often much faster than through talk therapy alone.

My Personal Story

Years ago, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a serious autoimmune disease that affects the large intestine. I felt overwhelmed by uncertainty, fear, and doubt. I was constantly stressed, and my life was full of unhappiness. Looking back, it’s no surprise that my body responded the way it did—my trauma and stress manifested physically in a debilitating way.

Eventually, I met a therapist who worked with body symptoms, and that was my turning point. By working through my past traumas and reconnecting with my body, my symptoms lessened significantly, and today, I’m in remission. I found these practices to be so powerful that I decided to train as a therapist myself—and I’ve never looked back!

My mission is to help you reconnect with your body in a compassionate, gentle, and non-judgmental way. Whether you’re dealing with past traumas, chronic illness, or just feel stuck, I’m here to support you on your journey. We’ll work together to create a path forward that feels collaborative and works for you.
