Trauma-Informed Yoga 

I offer a trauma-informed yoga program designed to support individuals who have experienced the effects of trauma. This program is suitable for those dealing with PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, stress, or overwhelm. It's also open to anyone interested in re-establishing a strong mind-body connection. Understanding Trauma: Trauma is an experience of overwhelm. It is a felt experience of overwhelm in the body. The combination of internal and external factors creates this felt experience in the body. Trauma is not an event although it might occur around an event. Many people carry various levels of trauma within them, disrupting their mind-body connection and leading to feelings of disconnection. The Role of Mind-Body Practices: Renowned expert Bessel Van Der Kolk's work, particularly "The Body Keeps the Score," has deepened our understanding of how trauma impacts the body. Mind-body practices like yoga have proven to be valuable components of trauma therapy, aiding in the healing process. Program Overview: Welcome to our strength-based approach to yoga, where prior experience is not required. Our focus is not on complex yoga postures but on creating a space of non-judgment and compassion for yourself. Over the course of 6 weeks, our program is designed to equip you with therapeutic tools derived from yoga, mindfulness, and somatic practices. These tools aim to facilitate the reconnection of your mind and body, fostering a journey of recovery. Spiritual Neutrality: While yoga can have a spiritual dimension for some, it's important to note that our trauma-informed yoga program does not emphasise this aspect of the practice. There are no yoga philosophies or religious elements incorporated into the program. ​Focus Areas: This program centres on the following areas: Somatic Experience: Fosters greater attunement to your body and promotes self-regulation. Self-Regulation: Movement, breath and mindfulness practices can aid in self-regulation and emotional management, which may be disconnected for trauma survivors.  Embodiment: Trauma can lead to a disconnection from one's own body. Yoga, through mindful practices and breath, can help individuals regain a sense of embodiment and reconnect to their physical selves. Mind-Body Integration: Yoga encourages the integration of the mind and body, helping individuals process and release stored trauma energy. Empowerment: Engaging in yoga can empower individuals by giving them a sense of agency over their bodies and emotions. ​Inclusive Space: I am committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for trauma recovery. Our space is neutral and trauma-sensitive, with careful consideration to minimise triggers and stimuli. Everyone, regardless of gender, race, sexuality, or beliefs, is warmly welcomed here. Through intentional breathwork and mindful movement, we will help you release tension, promote flexibility, and enhance body awareness. Meditation and Yoga Nidra offer you the opportunity to delve deep into relaxation, accessing a profound state of rest and rejuvenation. The use of soothing sounds further elevates your experience.
